The Baptist Union of Austria is an association of independent Baptist Churches and a founding member of the Free Churches in Austria.
When the monarchy collapsed in 1918, there were over 10,000 Baptists in Hungary, over 4,000 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and several thousand in Romania. But in Austria only 700. That’s how it stayed until 1990 – we had about 700 members in 10 churches. But a lot has changed and developed since then. Now there are 33 churches in the Baptist Union of Austria with about 2,900 members.
The majority of our churches are located in Vienna, having grown from 3 in 1990 to 11 in 2020. The other baptist churches in Austria are located primarily in the state capitals. Baptist worship services are attended by more than 3,000 people each week.
