Journalist and theologian Andreas Malessa discusses the question of how relevant the Sermon on the Mount, the Ten Commandments, and Christian ethics still are today.<\/p>\n\n

If morality is merely a matter of numbers, every relationship will eventually blow up in our faces. Working well, earning decent money \u2013 with decency, that is \u2013 and leading a pleasant life is only possible with morally trustworthy partners. But how does one become and remain trustworthy?<\/p>\n\n

Are the Ten Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount, and Christian ethics still applicable in the globalized postmodern era? Is there nothing left for Christians in the public sphere to do but issue sour warnings and claim an influence they no longer actually have? And what does it mean, specifically and nowadays, when people follow their “conscience decisions”? Will they be allowed to do less, or will they be able to do more? Theologian Andreas Malessa has suggestions on this.<\/p>\n\n

Malessa is a radio journalist at ARD stations and an author of non-fiction books, biographies and satirical short stories. His talk shows and documentaries made him known as a competent and humorous conversationalist. He wrote the musicals “Amazing Grace” and “Martin Luther King”. The Protestant theologian is a much sought-after expert on cultural, socio-ethical and ecclesiastical topics. He has been married for over 40 years, has two grown daughters and lives near Stuttgart.<\/p>\n\n
